POV: It’s mid-December- it’s dark at 5pm but your living room is lit up by your Christmas tree. Snow is falling, you have no intention of leaving your house and your favourite holiday Hallmark cheeseball movie is on. The only thing that’s missing is a warm mug of something YUM!
These 4 drinks will hit the spot and are low calorie alternatives to typical high sugar holiday drinks. So whether you’re calorie tracking or just trying to save room for Christmas cookies, give these recipes a try!
*I use Silk unsweetened vanilla almond milk. You can sub any milk in for these recipes, however calories may differ*

Hot Chocolate (50 Calories)
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 heaping tbsp cocoa powder (I use this one)
- 1 tbsp stevia or sweetener
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp light whipped cream
How to make it:
Warm almond milk in a small saucepan. Add cocoa powder and whisk until combined. Once hot, add stevia and vanilla (optional). Whisk together until hot and pour into a mug. Top with light whipped cream.
Chai Tea Latte (35 Calories)
What you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup steeped chai tea
- 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 tbsp sugar free maple syrup
- Cinnamon and nutmeg to taste
How to make it:
Steep 1 bag of chai in boiling water. While steeping, add almond milk to milk frother. Add in maple syrup, cinnamon and nutmeg and whisk until combined. Froth until warm and foamy. Add warm milk mixture to the hot tea.
Gingerbread Latte (45 calories)
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- Dash of nutmeg and cinnamon
- 1 tsp molasses
- 2 shots espresso
How you’ll make it:
Warm milk in a small saucepan. Add in ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and molasses. Whisk until combined and warm. Pour over espresso. (Alternatively, you can add milk and spices to a milk frother and once foamed pour over espresso)
Cinnamon Milk (35 Calories)
What you’ll need:
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 tbsp sugar free maple syrup
- Cinnamon
- *optional is a dash of pumpkin pie spice
How you’ll make it:
Add milk to a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in cinnamon and maple syrup until combined and warm.
